Sex Object

Sex Object is a response to the representation of female bodies in figurative sculpture. Unlike their male counterparts, they are traditionally depicted without genitalia. This practice continues in contemporary sculpture, figuring women as objects of desire without the capacity to act as subject or experience pleasure. The piece celebrates the hand as an integral element of queer practice, and body parts typically associated with male dominance are conspicuously absent. The hand and lower body were constructed as two separate pieces that can slot together or come apart to imply active reconfiguration.
